Yellow Pages Series visits Potchefstroom

Johannesburg – Friday, 23rd March 2012 – The Yellow Pages Series 2 track and field heads to the city of Potchefstroom on Saturday afternoon. PUK-McArthur Stadium will provide the back drop for the athletes who will be looking to build on recent performances and times in order to reach the ultimate goal of achieving Olympic qualification standard.

The Yellow Pages Series 1 event held in Stellenbosch earlier this week, saw athletes post impressive performances and times that almost culminated in qualification times. Ruben Ramolefi caused the biggest stir on the evening in the 3000m Steeplechase coming within a few seconds of achieving the A Standard qualifying time. There were also fantastic performances from Luvo Manyoga in the Long Jump who recorded a 8.00m jump with a 8.20m required for the A qualifying standard and Rorisang Rammonye in the Women’s 400m clocking a 51.98 a fraction short of the 51.55 time required.

As the season builds in momentum, athletes are priming themselves for the event in Potchefstroom which also represents another opportunity for athletes to stake a claim for the Yellow Pages Pot of Gold which totals R200 000 and will be shared by athletes who post Olympic A standard qualifying performances during the Yellow Pages sponsored-events on the ASA calendar between February and April this year.

“Yellow Pages is delighted with the performances of the athletes thus far with the latest event in Stellenbosch proving to be exciting with athletes striving for excellence. We look forward to the event in Potchefstroom and have high hopes that our athletes will raise the bar as they go in search of qualification time and a chance to share in the Yellow Pages Pot of Gold incentive that is on offer” said ” said Zwelakhe Ndlovu, Yellow Pages Sponsorship Manager.

Following the conclusion of the Potchefstroom event on Saturday further forthcoming events on the Yellow Pages calendar include the Yellow Pages SA Junior and Schools National Track and Field Championships (Friday, 29th March and Saturday, 30th March; Junior Championships end on Sunday, 1st April, in Germiston).

The Yellow Pages Interclub Championships take place on 5th April in Tshwane, and the Yellow Pages SA Senior Track and Field Championships and Combined Events will be held in Port Elizabeth on Friday, 13th April and Saturday, 14th April.

The curtain will finally come down on the 2012 Yellow Pages track and field season when the Yellow Pages Series 3 takes place in Tshwane on Friday, 20th April.
