Trudon enhances educators and learners' performance in pure Maths and Science in 10 schools in Soshanguve, Tshwane

Trudon Corporate Social Investment (CSI) has partnered with The Maths Centre to intervene in 10 schools in Soshanguve to enhance educators and learners' performance in pure Mathematics and Physical Science.

The 10 secondary schools are from a previously disadvantaged community.

The intervention project will run for a period of three years starting from March 2011 to February 2013.

Lionel Smith, GM: Marketing of Trudon (publishers of Yellow Pages) announced the launch of the programme at the offices of the Department of Education at the Tshwane North District in Wonderboom Junction on Tuesday, 19 April 2011.

“By partnering with the Math Centre, we hope and trust that this programme will improve teacher’s conceptual knowledge in Maths, Physical Science, and Chemistry as expected by the new curriculum producing qualified teacher for each subject. Our ultimate goal is to see an increase in the numbers of learners passing Maths and Science at the end of their high school,” said Smith

The secondary schools selected as per the mandate of Trudon are : Amogelang, Botse-Botse, Elizabeth Matsemela, Hlanganani, Kgomotso, Lethabong, Makhosini, Memezelo, Senthibele and Soshanguve.

The event was attended by the Department of Basic Education Officials (Tshwane North District), principals and the Mathematics and Physical Science Heads of Departments from the 10 schools.

Dr. Rashida Mahomed, Policy and Planning District Tshwane North of the Department of Basic Education expressed her gratitude toward the project and said that this intervention is exactly what her district has been waiting for. She assured Trudon and the Maths Centre that the programme will not be in vain as she has dedicated and committed teachers, learners and heads of departments that are excited about the programme.

The educator and learner performance enhancement programme is just another programme that is part of our corporate social investment strategy aimed at contributing towards the creation of a stable and prosperous society. The ultimate goal of the Trudon CSI is to ensure that all learners excel in their education to shape a brighter future for themselves.
